Women Worldwide with Deirdre Breakenridge (general)

So many people need a voice in this world that we’ve created. One of the most underserved communities, and one who may truly not have a voice to share their experience, are those who suffer from hearing loss. Janice Lintz is a fierce advocate for this group and is sharing her advice for taking your advocacy to a whole new level.

Janice first started to realize that there were disparities for those with hearing loss after giving birth to her daughter. Her daughter was born hearing impaired and as such Janice was thrust into a world that she didn’t fully understand but that she knew needed change.

In her time advocating for this community she has come up against federal agencies and huge corporations who have pushed aside accommodations for this group year after year. All of the setbacks and rejections have done nothing more than fuel the fire of her convictions.

Listen as she shares more about her story and what it takes to become a fierce advocate for causes that you believe in. She’s not stopping until those who suffer from hearing loss have the same recognition as those who suffer from any other marginalization.

What causes are you passionate about? Do you feel that all causes need their space?

Kate Isler is back on Women Worldwide and this time she’s written a book! In case you missed her first episode and aren’t sure who Kate is, here’s a quick rundown. Kate is an activist, wife, author, mother, partner, friend, businessperson, sister, and risk-taker who never had any intention of being an entrepreneur, but life had other plans.

The last time we spoke with Kate she was launching Be Bold Now and since then has shifted and pivoted into speaking and authorship. She’s also launched TheWMarketplace with a partner and in general, has stepped fully into entrepreneurship.

She never had any intention of becoming an author. Writing a book was never a bucket list item for her, but after spending 20 years with Microsoft and seeing how her experiences shaped her, she knew she needed to share her knowledge with other women.

Breaking Borders is an ode to her years in the start-up space and realizing that the one thing she didn’t do was allow others to diminish her presence. Listen as she shares where the last year and a half have taken her and why she has felt called to further empower women in their own success.

Ethics is a huge issue in business and in life. What happens when you break all the rules of ethics in business? Sometimes it leads to time in prison. Listen as Richard Bistrong shares his story and why he’s passionate about companies leaning into a culture of ethical behavior.

For the first part of his career, Richard was in sales. Instead of always choosing the ethical path, however, he engaged in criminal activity to the tune of bribing foreign leaders. He is now a consultant on foreign bribery, ethics, and compliance issues as well as a writer and speaker. He is adamant that the way to move away from tense ethical situations is to instill a corporate culture of ethical behavior at every level.

When you hear the word “trauma” what do you immediately think of? For so many of us, we think of major life events, big hurts, and huge feelings. But trauma is caused by all hurts because it has more to do with how our brain reacts to pain than what causes the pain.

Dr. Alauna is a trauma psychiatrist and she advocates for building a set of skills to deal with trauma rather than prescribing pills. She’s studied trauma and psychology for over a decade and spent much of that time helping our US Military veterans.

Building a stronger set of skills designed to help you process trauma in many cases alleviates the need for medications. Dr. Alauna has been researching the best methods and skills to develop for years and now uses evidence-based practices to help her clients live healthier, less anxious lives.

Listen as she shares what trauma truly is, why it’s important to understand how your body reacts to trauma, and ways you can process trauma in a healthy way. She’s digging deep into the science behind how our brains are affected by trauma and the safeguards it puts in place to protect you from trauma.

This was an amazing conversation and extremely timely considering trauma can even be caused by national events. Listen in to learn more.
