Women Worldwide with Deirdre Breakenridge

Kate Isler is back on Women Worldwide and this time she’s written a book! In case you missed her first episode and aren’t sure who Kate is, here’s a quick rundown. Kate is an activist, wife, author, mother, partner, friend, businessperson, sister, and risk-taker who never had any intention of being an entrepreneur, but life had other plans.

The last time we spoke with Kate she was launching Be Bold Now and since then has shifted and pivoted into speaking and authorship. She’s also launched TheWMarketplace with a partner and in general, has stepped fully into entrepreneurship.

She never had any intention of becoming an author. Writing a book was never a bucket list item for her, but after spending 20 years with Microsoft and seeing how her experiences shaped her, she knew she needed to share her knowledge with other women.

Breaking Borders is an ode to her years in the start-up space and realizing that the one thing she didn’t do was allow others to diminish her presence. Listen as she shares where the last year and a half have taken her and why she has felt called to further empower women in their own success.

As we all know, Covid has highlighted the disparities in the school system in every single state. Prior to Covid however there were already people working to bridge the gap. Abby Daly is one of those people. She is the Founder of Bridge of Books and is working to get physical books into the hands of children all over New Jersey.

Abby started out her career in the legal profession. She knew once she had kids however that she didn’t want to stay. Luckily she was able to pivot and is now working on a cause near and dear to her heart.

Bridge of Books has been putting donated books into the hands of underserved kids in the state of New Jersey for over 20 years and in that time they’ve been able to move millions of books.

Listen as Abby shares more about the Foundation, her TEDx Talk, and how Covid has had them making changes to their operations. It has been proven that children who have access to books are able to adapt and develop more easily than those who don’t.

Ethics is a huge issue in business and in life. What happens when you break all the rules of ethics in business? Sometimes it leads to time in prison. Listen as Richard Bistrong shares his story and why he’s passionate about companies leaning into a culture of ethical behavior.

For the first part of his career, Richard was in sales. Instead of always choosing the ethical path, however, he engaged in criminal activity to the tune of bribing foreign leaders. For this, he was put in jail for several months, but he realized the error of his ways and used the time to prepare for a new lease on life and business.

He is now a consultant on foreign bribery, ethics, and compliance issues as well as a writer and speaker. He is adamant that the way to move away from tense ethical situations is to instill a corporate culture of ethical behavior at every level.

It is so much easier for employees and the C-suite to make ethical decisions at any time when it is clear that ethics is a core value.
